No Interest Loans Scheme
The No Interest Loans Scheme (NILS) is a community-based program first developed by Good Shepherd Youth and Family Service Victoria. Individuals and families on low income are given the opportunity to access safe, fair and affordable credit to buy essential household items. There are no fees, charges, or interest payments.
NILS loans are used to buy new basic household items that will improve the quality of life. Loans can be used to buy whitegoods and furniture, medical equipment and to help with educational costs. Loans are available for up to $1000 and generally used to purchase one item only.
Who is eligible?
NILS loans are for low income earners. This includes, but is not limited to anyone who receives income support from Centrelink, holds a Centrelink Health Care Card or a Pension Card.
Loans applicants must reside in the Marrickville, Canterbury, Bankstown, Strathfield and Burwood local government areas. Residents must have lived in these areas for at least 3 months.
Applicants need to be able to show that they are able and willing to repay the loan.
